The Save the North Sea Project has seven partners and involves countries around the North Sea including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Norway, The Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
ALTERRA - Texel Marine and Coastal Zone Research, The Netherlands
ALTERRA is a leading nature research organisation and has a specialized unit for "Marine and Coastal Zone Research" settled on the island of Texel in the Netherlands. Dr J A van Freneker of the Texel team has conducted a study for the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water management (Ministry of VenW) concerning the use of stomach contents of seabirds, in particular the Fulmar, as a monitoring instrument for the abundance of marine litter in the North Sea. Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Norway
FEE Norway is private non-profit foundation and is responsible on a national level for FEE International. The foundation focuses on environmental education for children in pre-schools and schools through the Eco school program. Through the Individual Blue Flag Campaign FEE Norway tries to influence the attitudes of leisure boat owners. Read more
Keep Scotland Beautiful
Keep Scotland Beautiful is one of the leading environmental charities in Scotland. It runs a number of environmental campaigns in Scotland including People & Places, the Scottish Waste Awareness Group and Eco-Schools. Its involvement in the Save the North Sea-project is through two particular campaigns – Eco Schools and Clean Coast Scotland. Read more
Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation
The Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation is a non-profit organization whose prime goal is a sustainable development by combating litter, promoting recycling and increasing the awareness of environmental issues on a broad basis in society. The Foundation focuses on environmental campaigns that influence environmental attitudes and behaviour, and provides environmental education. The organization is also responsible on a national level for the FEE programs: Blue Flag Campaign and the Eco School program. The Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation is the Lead partner in the Save the North Sea Project. Read more
KIMO International, United Kingdom
KIMO International is an international association of Local Authorities, founded in 1990, that works towards cleaning up pollution in the North Sea. It has over 100 members in 9 countries including the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Faeroes Islands and the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland with associate members in Germany and the Isle Of Man. The organization holds Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) status at the North Sea Ministerial Conferences, the Committee of North Sea Senior Officials (CONSSO), the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North East Atlantic (OSPAR) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as part of the WWF Delegation. Skagen Education Center was founded in 1987 and is a private foundation run by the business community and the municipality of Skagen. The foundation is working within the fields of competence development, project management and building networks between companies, public organizations and the municipality. Skagen Education Center works on a national as well as international basis together with private and governmental institutions. Read more
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is the central environmental authority under the Swedish Government and the expert body in the Swedish public environmental organization. The Swedish EPA is to co-ordinate, prompt, and take the initiative in environmental protection work in co-operation with other national institutions. Sweden, via the Swedish EPA, has been Lead Country for marine litter issues within the OSPAR Commission since 1995. The issue of marine litter has been on the agenda for some time for the OSPAR Commission, the executive body of the The Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR Convention).
